Touch-typing for kids in times of pandemic
Without a doubt, the pandemic has turned our lives upside down. And the same has happened with touch-typing for kids. Just under a year ago, it was unthinkable that we would be confined for weeks, unable to meet friends for a drink, or have to queue to buy groceries. We found it strange when we saw someone wearing a mask "because they have a cold and don't want to infect others." Now, wearing a mask is mandatory and washing hands is a necessity.
In the education sector, we have found ourselves with virtual classes, through video calls, email, and WhatsApp. Many of the usual tools and resources in classrooms have had to be adapted. Teachers have had to make a rapid and continuous effort to adapt in the least traumatic way possible to the new situation.

What has happened to us during the pandemic?
At KLUPPY, as a touch-typing platform for kids, we have received many requests asking for a rapid implementation in schools. Fortunately, our platform can be used by as many students as needed in a matter of hours or minutes. Integrations with Google Classroom and bulk student uploads make the task easier. In addition to this, the fact that KLUPPY is an online tool and does not require installation facilitates the entire process.

As if this were not enough, KLUPPY allows you to keep precise track of access control, time spent typing, number of exercises completed, etc. Monitoring is continuous and in real time: it allows us to know what each student is doing.
But schools have not been the only protagonists in recent months. Many parents have shown interest in our typing course for their children. Their schools do not offer this service, but families are aware of the need for touch-typing.
We have individual licenses available at a reduced price, which allows students to learn touch-typing completely independently without requiring a great effort.
Why is a touch-typing course for kids important?
The most obvious answer may be the optimization of time spent in front of a computer. But that is not the only advantage that learning touch-typing offers.
Surely all the advantages we can think of stem from improving keyboard proficiency. After all, it is our main input of information on a device, and the more agile we are with the keyboard, the faster we will execute actions.
Our course allows the reading of texts to be completely linear (we only show one line of text), thus preventing us from getting used to reading diagonally and losing a lot of information along the way.
In addition to this, our tool requires a certain level of concentration in the typing exercises, making it an interesting exercise to work on focus.
What is the best online touch-typing course for kids?
At KLUPPY, we believe we have a leading product on the market. Not only because our tool teaches touch-typing, but also because it can be used, for example, to practice in English.
KLUPPY has hundreds of videos in three languages: Spanish, English, and Basque. This allows the student to become familiar with languages in a more natural and enjoyable way, being able to switch between them whenever they want.

We wanted to have a tool without instructions. Our extremely simple interface allows the student to need only a few minutes or seconds to get familiar with it and know what to do.
Motivation is fundamental when learning touch-typing online. It is a demanding task, so keeping motivation high is important. We take this aspect into account from start to finish. Through gamification and adapting levels to each student, we have made learning more entertaining.
And what about the extracurricular typing class?
Our extracurricular service has had to change radically during this time. In-person activity has been suspended, so we have had to adapt to the new situation.
We have designed the activity practically as if it were in-person. The only thing we modify is the way we interact with the students. We will do it remotely. This allows us to be much more flexible when offering schedules, creating groups, or assisting people.
During this 20/21 school year, we will use Discord as a communication platform. In it, we have different virtual rooms/classrooms where we will meet at a specific time to conduct our session. In addition, there are a series of rooms we can join to have a good time and chat, or simply play and send each other challenges in real time.
Otherwise, learning touch-typing will be exactly the same.
In short, the pandemic has made us evolve, mature, and see things from another perspective. We have surely accelerated certain changes in our society and as individuals who have had to adapt quickly to major changes.
For all these reasons, we firmly believe that touch-typing is an absolutely indispensable skill, and what better way than to learn online, at our own pace, without anything disrupting our progress and learning.
