How to learn touch typing in a week?

Faced with such a question, another one immediately arises for us: Is it possible? But seriously, is it really possible? Let's see how to learn touch typing in a week.

In a previously published article, we already explained how many hours are needed to learn touch typing. On that occasion, we were talking about some 20 or 25 hours of actual practice. Although we also made it clear that, on many occasions, around 15 hours could be more than enough.

In addition to this, we take into account that for 15 hours of actual practice (doing exercises), twice as many hours are needed. That is what our statistics show.

So, let's do our math: To complete 15 hours of exercises, about 30 hours in front of the computer are needed. We can take 7 days of practice during which we take one day off. Therefore, we will work for 6 days. If we divide the 30 hours over 6 days, we will need to practice for 5 hours a day. But keep in mind that 5 hours of typing without stopping can become frustrating. To make this less tedious, we can divide the 5 hours into two sessions of 2.5 hours.

Therefore, we can say that yes, it is possible. But with a very high level of effort.

Is it recommended to learn touch typing quickly?

Now, is it recommended to do it in such a short time? In our opinion, no. We believe that learning the same subject (in this case, touch typing) for so long at a time can lead to burnout and prevent our minds from properly absorbing what we have learned. We believe that learning that is more sustained over time is more consistent in the long run. It reinforces what has been learned. In this way, we will manage to internalize touch typing as if it were a habit. The result will be better.

If your goal is still to learn touch typing in a short time, we recommend that you consider extending that week to 3 or even 4 weeks. This will allow you to work for about 20 business days, at a rate of one or two hours a day. This can be digested much more easily, and the result will surely be even better than expected. If you wish, you can do more hours of practice during the first week to make faster progress.
