How long does it take to learn touch typing?
It is the big question everyone asks us: "How much time do I need to learn touch typing?" A great mystery that does not have a clear answer since it depends on many variables. And our answer is always the same and just as simple: it depends.
Progress of learning touch typing in children
It depends on many obvious factors. For example, each person's abilities, fine motor skills, etc. Children who learn touch typing with KLUPPY usually need between 20 and 30 hours of practice. Our students, in general, are primary school children between 9 and 12 years old.
Those who are slightly older, secondary school students, usually require about 15 to 20 hours of practice.
With this amount of hours, students usually have a good foundation in touch typing, with an error rate of around 1% and a speed of about 150 keystrokes per minute for the youngest, and over 200ppm for the older ones.
An adult will also depend on their finger agility, but with about 20 hours they should also have enough to acquire a minimally acceptable level.

Learning touch typing for competitive exams
If you are looking to prepare for competitive exams and achieve speeds exceeding 300ppm, we can tell you in advance that you will need a good dose of patience and hours of work. If you are willing to work, rest assured that with a good foundation and practice, you will get great results.
All this data does not mean that all students require the exact same amount of hours, but it can serve as a reference.
These practice hours can be spread over a full 9-month course or done intensively in 2 or 3 weeks. Keep in mind that if you do an intensive course, you will need a lot of patience and motivation, but it is a skill you will have for life.
And remember, the main goal of learning touch typing is none other than typing on the keyboard with all your fingers and without looking. Speed will come as you put what you have learned into practice.
